In the February Star-Dot-Star column, James Knoblock showed
how a 1-2-3 file-saving macro could work dependably whether
there was already a file with the same name or not. (1-2-3
prompts for confirmation when you save to an old file name
but not when you save to a new one a situation that can
confuse a macro.) I have a simpler solution. Following the
Save command with an R and an <Esc> will instruct 1-2-3 to
overwrite the old file if it asks and will have no effect if
it doesn't. Thus, a one-line macro, /FSfilename~R{ESC}, will
handle all situations.

Editor's Note: We got several letters reporting similar
observations -- a sign that we have many intelligent and
knowledgeable readers out there. This tip works because an
<Esc> character does nothing in 1-2-3 unless you're at a
prompt.
